BBPS Business Onboarding: What Information You Need

Launching bill payments is mostly a process of verification, agreement and setup. Knowing the steps in advance helps you go live faster.

At the enquiry stage

At first contact, you only need to explain your business. Expect questions like these:

• Your name, company and contact details.
• Whether you need a white-label platform or a ready-to-use panel.
• The approximate size of your retail or distributor network.
• The bill categories that matter most to your customers.

You should not be asked to send sensitive documents with an initial sales enquiry. Share documents only during formal onboarding, through the channel your provider specifies.

During onboarding

Formal onboarding typically includes:

• Business verification, such as company registration details, PAN and GST where applicable, and details of authorised signatories, as required by the agreement and applicable rules.
• An agreement that defines each party's role, responsibilities and commercial terms.
• For white-label: your brand assets, such as logo, colours, domain and support contact details.
• A plan for setting up your network: admins, distributors and retailers.

Setup and testing

1. Branding and configuration are applied.
2. Users and roles are created.
3. Test transactions are run, covering successful, failed and pending scenarios.
4. Receipts, reports and complaint flows are checked.

Go-live

After testing is signed off, your network starts transacting. Plan for training, keep support contacts handy, and review reports and reconciliation closely during the first weeks.

A clear onboarding process is a good sign. It shows the provider takes compliance and operations seriously, which matters every day once you are live.
